By-poll preps go under the microscope

Relevant officers will ensure implementation of Election Commission code of conduct

LAHORE: As 65 contestants submitted their nomination papers for the NA-120 by-elections, authorities reviewed final arrangements and the security plan for the polls.

In a meeting held at the office of provincial election commissioner on Tuesday, Director General (Admin and Monitoring) Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Naeem Akbar Qazi was given a briefing over the arrangements of NA-120 where by-polls were scheduled to be held on September 17.

Brig Qazi was informed that there were a total of 65 contestants who have submitted their nomination papers for the by-polls. The number of registered voters in the constituency is 321,633. There will be 220 polling stations and 568 polling booths. As many as 220 presiding offices, 568 assistant presiding officers and 568 polling officers will perform their duty.



Under the security plan formulated for the polling stations, the final polling scheme will be handed over to the security institutions concerned. There will be 50 electronic voting machines and as many biometric voting machines which will be used on 21 polling stations.

The battle for NA-120 is set to be a close one

Brig (retd) Qazi expressed his satisfaction over the arrangement for NA-120 and directed officers to ensure the implementation of the code of conduct of the Election Commission. Provincial election commissioner, district returning officer, returning officer, monitoring officer and other relevant officers attended the meeting.
