KARACHI: Residents of the port city will be able to experience the thrills of being close to fighter jets, watching them twirl and perform stunts, today, as the Pakistan Air Force is hosting another air show at Sea View to mark Independence Day.
Residents were treated to a similar show at the same venue on Pakistan Day, March 23, this year, when the air force pilots displayed their skills in handling their jet planes.
This year, to add colour to the show, special appearances will be made by Solo Turk - the famous aerobatic team of the Turkish Air Force - and the internationally acclaimed Saudi Hawks of the Royal Saudi Air Force. Citizens, especially people passionate about planes, are encouraged to come out to see the show.
Celebrations for Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day will not be restricted to the air show; the city is playing host to a number of events today, including flag hoisting ceremonies and sporting events.
Cultural show: Special Azadi Train ready to chug out
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has been invited by the Arts Council of Pakistan at its flag hoisting ceremony and Independence Day celebration, where there will be fireworks. Singer Shafqat Amanat Ali has also been invited to perform national songs.
Mayor Wasim Akhtar will also be part of a number of events in the city, including a flag hoisting ceremony organised by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
The Pakistan Navy celebration will include a mangrove plantation drive. A formal event organised by the navy will take place at PNS Himalaya Firing Range in Manora where officials of the Pakistan Navy and members of the International Union for Conservation of Nature will participate.
A flag hoisting ceremony and other Independence Day-related events are being organised by Pakistan Customs at Custom House near Keamari in the morning, where officials of the Pakistan Customs will be invited.
On the other hand, security in the city is on high alert, according to the Central Police Office. SSPs of all the districts of the city have been directed to take strict security measures to ensure the safety of citizens and peaceful celebrations. The police have been directed to focus on places where events or ceremonies are taking place.
