Kashmir dispute: Hafiz Saeed demands nothing less than troop pullout

Chief of proscribed Jamaatud Dawa Hafiz Muhammad Saeed has said that he will accept nothing less than the withdrawal of Indian troops from Kashmir.

“We don’t believe in cricket diplomacy or any other backdoor channel that the government adopts with India,” Saeed said in a fiery speech at the National Press Club, Islamabad, where scores of JuD activists had gathered to hold a memorial for slain Kashmiri leader Maulana Shaukat Shah.

Saeed asked parliamentarians to adopt a clear Kashmir policy and become the voice of millions of Pakistanis and Kashmiris in the freedom movement. “Mujahideen (freedom fighters) are determined to continue their struggle till the logical end of the Kashmir movement,” he said.

Saeed dispelled the impression that the Kashmir freedom movement has lost its momentum but admitted that since 9/11, it had slowed down to an extent. He said that the successive governments of Pakistan had bowed to pressure from India and the international community as far as the Kashmir issue is concerned. “But I want to make one thing clear. If Russian forces had to leave Afghanistan and now the Americans are looking for a safe exit, then Indian forces will have to leave soon,” he said.

He chose not to reply to a question regarding assistance from the armed forces to the Kashmir movement.

New Delhi believes that Saeed’s JuD is linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba, which it blames for the 26/11 Mumbai attacks that killed as many as 163 people. The attack halted the composite dialogue between Pakistan and India, which has only recently resumed. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani also met Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the sidelines of a recent World Cup semi-final match between the Pakistani and Indian cricket teams.

Since its establishment in 1985, the JuD has established several departments to systemise and regulate its activities. The organisation has a special emphasis on relief activities and actively participated in relief work after the devastating earthquake that hit northern Pakistan, including Azad Kashmir, on October 8, 2005.

If the facts and things would have been so transparent, the matter would have been resolved years ago. I raised just one point Why a handful of people are singing Independence after 1989. From 1947 to 1989 Kashmir enjoyed all promised done to it by(don't consider plebiscite because it was initiated by India and taken back only because Pakistan refused it that time) Pt. Nehru. Kashmir was always considered as a special state. Tell me any Incident between 1948 to 1989 when any genocide took place there. Was it ever treated as a untouchable state? were you left behind it the pace with which India grew? were you forcefully tortured to salute some special King? you have all the rights to choose your representatives in legislative assembly of J&K and in the Parliament of India. If i have to speak in real terms, it's you who are sharing a part in ruling India, we all can say that we equally rule this country. Yes, there are some flaws, some loop holes in our System, but is there any perfect system in this world? If you are so tensed about the problems of your Kashmiri brothers, why don't you fight for Indian administrative services(last year topper was a Kashmiri), Join IPS, be collector serve your people in Kashmir. And who teared apart the Colorful culture of Kashmir. If being Muslim does only gives the Allah's blessings then please for same god's sake look around the Kashmir's neighborhood. In 1980's and 90's every day innocents were being killed by these so called freedom fighters. Did their bombs and Bullets inquired victim's religion or region before killing them. These people are power and publicity hungry. they are living in their dream world of ISLAM and don't have any Vision for any state and only dream to rule the whole world eventually. Do you think they can give you a future? You are speaking about Islamic humanity but supporting most inhuman creatures on this planet who are fooling you and the world on the name of God. Don't west yourself repeating Nehru and Liberty and looking into history again and again, try to think 20-30 years down the line, try to develop a vision for a prosperous Kashmir. If you stop singing freedom and start fighting for peace"till the very last drop of your blood", very soon these separatists will sit in corner, Indian Army will get out from Kashmiri streets to the Border. My dear, Sit on a chair, close your eyes and think for a moment what is India? is it the Politicians in parliament, is it Hinduism, Is it the Constitution of India, Is it the Supreme court of India, Is it just Godhra or Ayodhya incidents only(yes, they are the shameful stain on our head for eternity, but is it all about India in last 63 years), is it Delhi, Mumbai etc?? No my dear, deep down you will realize that you are India, the real owner who can change the things for this state and this country. feel the pride of sharing the nationalism with 121 billion people on the face of the earth... India has evolved from the days of Babri and Godhra and learning harmony and synchronization with the utmost pace. Grace | 13 years ago | Reply The fact that so many Indians are here commenting only shows that Indians are afraid of the truth and realize that the future belongs to Kashmiris. This scares them. There is no need for war or rancour since you can't hold a population hostage indefinetely. Yes many people from Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan have selflessly fought and died for Kashmiri independence against Indian rule but we must not let their lives be in vain. The point is that people in Azad Kashmir join the Pak military. On the Indian side, Indian army can only send soldiers from parts of India who have nothing to do with Kashmir. But Kashmir is for Kashmiris. In time they will assert their eventual right to be free and join Pakistan. In a free and fair vote as mandated by the United Nations resolution, all of the rhetoric of Indians will disappear. This needs to be stressed to the world community until action is taken.

India, in collusion with world powers will annex Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. This way, India will extend its borders to Afghanistan. The area of interest is the Wakhan Corridor - which will give access to Central Asia. In a way, you will get your wish - Kashmir will be united again, but Independence - no.

I know it's very easy to give commentary sitting in my AC office here in Mumbai, but believe me i can feel, imagine the pain Kahmiri people are bearing from last 22 years. And i can say this because i did my engineering from Kashmir, spent a lot of time there, still have many Kashmiri friends and often visit Kashmir. I would not like to go in historical facts in detail, cause they all goes in India's Favor..Both morally and Logically with any enforcement from my side.. In 1948 Kashmir Acceded in India. A plebiscite has to be done, but it was Pakistan who refused to pull her Army back. in 1950 the Same Nehru, who went to UN knowing Kashmir will chose peace eventually, declared Kashmir as an integral part of India. Before 1947, there was nothing like India or Pakistan, Karachi, Lahore, Rajasthan or Gujarat all were independent Countries. Now we Indian or Pakistanis are part of our own nations. Your case is slightly different according to you. But My point is that how many times Human right Violation Occurred in Kashmir before 1989, how many times Army roamed in streets their, How many blasts occurred there. After 1948 we all were part of an integral India, but these Hafiz saeed kind of people poisoned the youth there, filtered the unemployed Jihadis(terrorists is the proper word) into the velly be benefiting by the liberal democracy of India and weak will power of politicians, and from there the whole problem starts. you don't want to be with India or Pakistan, but seek your Identity as being a Kashmiri nationalism? Ahmer Ali | 13 years ago | Reply Assalam-o-Allaikum Warahmatullah.Much the best Hafiz Saeed's demand to resolve Kashmir issue because women are raped,children are orphaned and houses are burnt in Indian Occupied Kashmir by brutal and cruel Indian troops and the world community is just seeing all this as a silent spectator and no one in the modern world is calling it military terrorism by Indian army and Indian government and if any muslim kills any non-mulsim for even self-defense then by the whole international community this is called terrorism.What the prejudicial attitude against the muslims,Islam and muslim world the world community is showing on this Indian forces' brutalities in Indian Occupied Kashmir and what the definition is being shown of terrorism by the international community on the world level.Lots of time has been wasted on the name of fake peace talks on the most burning and core Kashmir issue and lots of photo sessions have been held in this regard but all are non-result-oriented and wastage of time and money.The only solution of Kashmir issue is allow the Kashmiri people to decide,(without any interference of Indian or Pakistani governments through any means), either they want to live with India or Pakistan or want their own separate state with their own constitution,border and sovereignty and both countries must have to respect this Kashmiri people's will and desire.

Take for example Syed Geelani - his ancestors originated from Gilan province of Iran Umar Farooq's ancestors came from Hamedan province of Iran. Many of those currently settled in the Kashmir valley came to Kashmir alongside Turkic invasions of central Asia during the middle ages (1200AD - 1700AD), by displacing and conquering native Kashmiri inhabitants. Many Brahmins in Southern India trace their ancestry to Kashmir and migrated due to the various invasions that took place there. Southern Indian Kings gave land grants and temple positions to those that arrived, and they permanently settled there. That doesn't mean that they've forgotten about their native homeland. (Your popular food 'Wazwan' is in fact a Turkik food, not of Kashmiri origin).

One of them was a businessman returning from Calcutta. So that was the context. Obviosuly discusions started about Kashmir and why inspite of the contrast with Pakistan (that has given away a 3rd of kashmir to China, that does not giuve true freedom to anyone lest of all Kashmiriris in POK) Kashmirirs are protesting against India? Sure Kahmir could have been more develped but Kashmir was trated better than other states and all issues could be ascribed to lackj of quality governance typical of a 3rd world country. The 2 elders informed me that the reason today's youth is protesting against India is because their parents had instilled in their minds since they were very young that being Muslim their identity is with Pakistan. The facts are- Kashmir problem is a Muslim problem as all communities are not part of the struggle Kashmir problem started only after late 80's inflitration by Pakistani inspired terrorists Religion is the prime factor for those protesting and that is not a factor if any improtance for rest of India India has met all its special promises for Kashmiris Kashmir had acceded to India at Indpenedence Pakistan did not fulfill UN resolutions so India could not Pakistan subsequrently ratfied Simla pact which nullified UN resolutions. The reality is that neither Pakistan or India or China or anyone else is interested in an indepednent Kashmir much less a "pakistan mindset" Kashmir Any other solution is not acceptable to Pakistan or India.

Before questioning about U.N resolution, you need to even understand what the resolution is. I bet you just know the part of resolution which speaks of plebiscite. how convenient. After independence, when the Hindu Kashmiri king opted to not join either India or Pakistan it was agreed by both nation tha they will not forcefully invade or try to forcefully annex Kashmir. This agreement was broke by Pakistan which too the adventurism of invading Kashmir. This forced the King to join India and he signed an agreement that Kashmir is not part of Indian territory. The war of 1947 started and part of Kashmir was already occupied by pak army. Looking at the suffering of common people and not wanting to make people suffer, it was Nehru ( please underline) who suggested U.N to intervene and request paksitan to stop the war. If India wanted it could have continued war throw back pak army beyond kashmir boundry and resolved the issue forever. But it was Nehru's maybe weak decision or big heartedness or foolishness that he approached U.N. since he didnt wanted to see two new countries created start relationship with war. The divide between pak occupied kashmir and india occupied kashmir became L.O.C. U.N. went a step ahead and said let the plebiscite be held. A solution not agreeable in this situation since the very basic of India Pakistan partition was on the basis of princely state succeeding their part to either India or Pakistan. Common man's choice was never carried out in any other state. Pakistan was insisting to held plebiscite on Indian occupied kashmir only and not on entire kashmir. Which India did not agree to. If the plebiscite was held back in 1947 kashmir would have been again an independent country which was not acceptable to Pakistan. hence they waited till 1980s until which the systematically nurtured terrorist organization to remove Kashmir Hindus from region, kept so called azad kashmir always tormented to ask for "kashmir liberation" and when the time was ripe started full fledge terrorism activities in Kashmir in 80s to gain U.N. attention once again to unsolved issue. I do dare you to prove any single instance of unrest in Indian Occupied Kashmir until 1980. You would not find one. Kashmir was at peace until Pakistan which was still recovering from wounds of Bangladesh partition started sponsoring terrorism. So kashmir tried three wars and proxy wars using terrorists to gain Kashmir. And now it wants India to abide by U.N. plebiscite ? Be realistic. It is beyond a point where either India or Pakistan will compromise on Kashmir. Changing LOC to Border is the only unfortunate solution. This said, I have no hard feeling for my Pakistani brothers. our hatred towards each other is result of our bloody partition. I personally regret over the decisions of our fore fathers which have resulted to this painful life what our generations and dont know how many more generations will suffer.

Unfortunately Pakistan cannot do this and to add to it, Pakistan has donated a large piece of Kashmir to China. Will China give it back? All this has made the full UN Resolution redundant.

Pakistan should dismantle the kashmir assembly/presidency non-sense and do what India did i.e. declare it's share of kashmir and other northern areas as northern province and get some british officer to draw his/her pen on the divided line because if I recall correctly that is how lord mountbatten divided punjab and bengal.

Hafiz Saeed is making empty promises to the Pakistani people when he knows that his time and the gang of terrorists that he employs are in their final days. This is what scares the Indians who are clearly aware that Kashmir will eventually be free. In today's world you can't keep an entire people hostage indefinitely and if you ask the majority of Kashmiris, they would prefer to join Pakistan any day to be with similar peoples.

The religion statistics can not be applied as Kashmir natural inhabitants are hinuds not muslims. It is like guests coming to one's house and stay there for a long time, get rid of the owner's people and claim the house belongs to him because majority of the people are his own.
