Summer camps set up in over 2,000 K-P schools

Besides being a fun place, the camps will also promote extra-curricular activities

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) on Monday launched a week-long summer camp, with the theme ‘popular science’, in more than 2,000 government high schools across the province.

According to a press release issued by the K-P’s E&SED, the summer camp will provide students guidance on daily life science. During the programme students will be taught innovative approaches and ideas regarding every day science. As part of the camp, there will also be fun activities and sports.

The programme were launched after the department’s deliberations with a number of private sector institutes, civil society organisations, scientists and hundreds of volunteers to make the camp an interesting, informative and fun place for students.

K-P to roll back smart school project

Opening ceremonies in the schools across the province were attended by government officials.

“The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department started the summer school initiative last year under the guidance of K-P Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan,” said Secretary E&SE Shahzad Khan Bangash at one of the opening ceremonies.

“The objective of the summer camp is to promote extra-curricular activities such as life skills, interpersonal communication, learning through fun games, safety and rescue procedures and building leadership qualities among the students,” said Bangash.

The secretary attended the opening of the summer camps at various schools of Kohat including Government Girls High School Number 3, Government Girls High School Junglekhel, Government Boys Schools Number 1 and Comprehensive School for Boys.

Over 500 primary schools functional in K-P during past four years

MPA Ziaullah Bangash, the commissioner and the assistant commissioner Kohat, the tehsil nazim and other representatives were also present with him.

In Peshawar, a ceremony was held at Government High School Number 1 Boys Schools Peshawar. District Nazim Peshawar Muhammad Asim, Special Secretary Qaisar Alam along with director E&SE attended the opening ceremony.

Asim appreciated the efforts made by the E&SE for promoting extra-curricular activities among the students. He also thanked the volunteers who came to Peshawar to participate in the summer camps.

Special Secretary E&SE Qaisar Alam acknowledged the participation of all individual volunteers and organisations including Pakistan Science Foundation, Khwarzmi Science Foundation, Robo Kids, Pakistan Astronomy Society, Pakistan Science Club, Wonder Tree, Sabaq, Numerica, Robo Miners, Robotics, LearnoBots, Numaish Karachi, Dr Faisal, Maleeha, and Usman Group.
