The Islamabad High Court (IHC) decided on Monday that a petition seeking placing the names of the Sharif family on the exit control list (ECL) was not maintainable.

Two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) officials, Usman Saeed Basra and Gulbaz Mushtaq had filed a petition before the IHC on Sunday requesting the court to direct the Ministry of Interior to place the names of Nawaz, his three children, son in-law and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on the no-fly list.

IHC urged to include names of Sharif family on ECL

IHC Judge Amir Farooq asked the petitioners if they had contacted the relevant forums to request placing the names of the Sharif family on the ECL. They replied that that they had consulted the forums but the latter did not respond. They added that the court, however, could issue these directives. The court disposed of the petition, observing  that it was not maintainable.

Basra and Mushtaq in their petition had stated that they had “serious apprehensions” that the former prime minister, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, sons Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, son in-law Capt (retired) Mohammad Safdar and the incumbent finance minister “may flee the country to avoid trial and process of law”
