LAHORE: In an ongoing tug of war with its archrival Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has once again alleged that the ruling party goons were harassing its women workers electioneering in NA-120, the constituency of the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

PTI’s candidate from NA-120, Dr Yasmin Rashid had warned that if any untoward incident happened to any woman worker of her party during electioneering, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif would be responsible for it. She asked Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership to rein in their what she called ‘Gullo Butts’ and teach them how to behave and give respect to women.

She pointed out that PTI had already submitted its complaint to Lahore deputy commissioner and demanded security for women party workers. She said it was the responsibility of the Punjab government to provide security to all the citizens in the province.

Speaking to the media persons on Sunday, she said it was really condemnable that ruling the party was creating hurdles in electioneering process of the PTI. She stressed that the ruling party was in a state of confusion after the disqualification of the former premier Nawaz Sharif as it was unable to find any ‘clean candidate’ who could face PTI in NA-120 by-election.

During her door-to-door campaign on Temple Road and adjoining areas on Sunday, she said Sharif brothers, who claimed to have great morals, have completely failed to provide justice to their own family member, Ayesha Ahad, the wife of Punjab chief minister’s son Hamza Shehbaz Sharif. Ahad was struggling to get justice for the past seven years but all in vain, she added. She pointed out that nearly half of the voters in NA-120 were women.

“In 2013 general elections, a large number of women voters used their right of franchise in the favour of PTI and after the disqualification of Sharif on corruption charges, situation has changed entirely. This time PTI is expecting to sweep by-election in NA-120,” she underlined.

PTI supporters and women workers distributed pamphlets and brochures among citizens in NA-120. They highlighted PTI’s struggle against corruption and wrong deeds of the ruling party. PTI workers and supporters from UC-69 gave warm reception to party’s women workers electioneering in Mozang area by organising a performance of bagpipers in traditional navy-blue uniform.
