LAHORE: There has been an uptick in the trend of technology entrepreneurs tackling Pakistan’s social and economic problems in recent years. Young companies are looking for solutions to resolve decade old issues. Our country’s dilapidated healthcare system has become a dilemma and hence, an opportunity to kick-start a venture; myZindagi.

Myzindagi.pk, a Lahore-based start-up, launched its commercial operations in June 2017 with the aim of making patients’ lives easier. The entrepreneurs are looking to solve the problems faced in medical field by utilising technology; specifically telemedicine, cloud storage and mobile devices.

At its core myZindagi is a 360 degree healthcare solution. This means that they offer services to patients that help them at every step of their healthcare journey. Users can get all these services from one account including doctor search, appointment bookings, video consultation calls, medicine delivery, at-home lab sampling, and digital medical records.

The idea of connecting patients with the right doctor through technology is not new, but in Pakistan the infrastructure and prevailing attitude towards the adoption of technology makes it an uphill battle.

myZindagi has created innovative solutions that have brought quality doctors on-board, which in turn has attracted patients to the convenient service.

The company’s chief operating officer Haseeb Sattar said, “Just transplanting ideas from the west to Pakistan never works. We have to be aware of the local ecosystem and must ensure that our services are meeting the needs and expectations of the Pakistani market.”

This is why myZindagi.pk allows patients to access its service via mobile app, website and even a telephone call. They have a round-the-clock call centre, which facilitates patients and can be reached through video, voice or text communication medium.

This ‘hand holding’ aspect is needed to help the local population use the services smoothly and avoid frustration.

The company is expanding this facility throughout Pakistan; currently it is present in 40 cities, with approximately 15,000 doctors on board and aligning 2,500 hospitals and clinics.

The company has hired in-house doctors and utilises a network of external specialists to assist the patients via video call.  While talking to The Express Tribune, Sattar said. “Our in-house doctors serve as primary care providers. They basically do the initial assessment of patients via video call. If the illness can be dealt with through the video consultation our doctors prescribe medication or propose labs, which can all be ordered via the service.”

He went on to add that there is no extra charge for the service and it is free for all patients. They only pay market rates for medication, labs and in-person doctor consultations.

With so many pertinent services for patients the company sees thousands of people contacting their website, apps and phone daily. This traffic is routed towards the relevant service or is referred to doctors across Pakistan.

The entrepreneurs have monetised this aspect of their business by selling monthly subscriptions to doctors that want to advertise to the massive audience. The packages are designed to accommodate single doctors to large hospitals and include branding and PR services. myZindagi.pk goes a step further and adds customer service to the doctor packages so that patients are not left without a friendly person to contact, when they need help.

Hyperloop startup says superfast rail a reality

With the success of the patient and doctor aspects of the business, Sattar is also exploring more ways to engage visitors. “We offer a very active health question and answer forum. Users can anonymously post questions and get authentic answers from verified doctors across Pakistan,” said Sattar.

As with other services, the forum is not only free and but most questions are also answered within a few hours.

myZindagi’s growth and adoption in Pakistan has not gone unnoticed and the venture recently received the ‘Best Start-up Award’ at this year’s Start-up Expo organised by PITB.
