KARACHI:

Sindh High Court’s justices Gulzar Ahmed and Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi ordered the Kandhkot SPO on Monday to produce an allegedly abducted woman before the court on April 25 or be suspended.

The division bench was hearing a constitutional petition filed by a couple who married of their own free will, Izzat and Aamir Khan Shaikh. They were declared karo-kari by a jirga. The couple said that the jirga wanted to punish them so it registered fake cases. The woman, Patoli, who is being reported as kidnapped, has been living with her husband, the couple has submitted. They said the fake FIR was aimed at harassing them.

On Monday, Kandhkot SPO Inspector Abdul Haque Shaikh, who was representing the DPO, said that he made frantic efforts to find the alleged hostage but no one cooperated. He asked the court to direct the petitioners to help him locate her.

The bench rejected the excuse given by the SPO and issued a stern warning, ordering him to find the woman before April 25 or face suspension.
