HARIPUR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday suspended a notification issued by the K-P Education Department for holding assessments of fifth and eighth graders.

A petition challenging the notification was filed by the Private Education Network (PEN), an alliance of private-sector schools working in the province. Consequently, the court had issued notifications to the relevant authorities to file their responses.

Officials of relevant departments, however, failed to submit any response within the given time which compelled the court to suspend the notification.

According to the suspended notification, assessments for fifth and eighth graders were to be held under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar.

PEN chief Saleem Khan said that they had exhausted all options before filing a petition against the government.

“With this ruling, the court has saved the future of the children. We will continue to work for the betterment of education in the province, he added.
