Police-public interaction: Recognising those who help keep roads safe

Traffic police’s radio service marks eight years of broadcasting

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police has awarded its officers who serve in its radio channel for ‘outstanding service’ in helping the public.

In this regards, an award ceremony was held in the capital as the radio service, FM 92.4, marked eight years of broadcasts on Monday.

“This event is a tribute to those who educate people about road safety,” said SSP-Traffic Malik Matloob, adding that they had increased the duration of their daily radio broadcast from 18 hours to 21 hours and that they now aim to operate the channel around the clock.

Constable Zawar Khan was handed an award in the Helping Hands category of the year, while Asif Gill won the Best Constable award. Ghulam Raza of ITP was conferred the Best Head Constable award. Similarly, Muhammad Tariq was judged as the Best Assistant sub-inspector, whereas Riaz Hussain and Hameedul Haq won the Best Sub-Inspector and Best Inspector awards respectively.



Among the ITP radio staff, Nosheen was chosen as the best debutant radio jockey, while the Best RJ award for regional language shows went to Chahcha Jaani, a popular RJ for his Potohari-Punjabi shows. Best RJ for the morning shows was presented to Ali Ayyaz, and Best RJ award for the late night shows went to Adeel Khan.

Similarly, Annu won the Best Female RJ award while the Best Male RJ award went to KM. Senior radio presenter Haider Farooq was handed a lifetime achievement award.

Islamabad Police Inspector General Khalid Khattak said that it was important to improve linkages between the police and the public. “The police are from the public and the public are from the police,” he said.

The show was hosted by RJ Zaibee Piyaray and co-hosted by four other RJ’s including Nosheen, Huma, Awais Shahbaz and Faheem.

The award ceremony also featured skits, dance, singing and stage performances by students and Whites Shadows troupe. A moving storytelling session to pay tribute to an ITP official, who was martyred in the line of duty, was also performed.
