ISLAMABAD: The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) on Thursday issued notices to unregistered schools of the federal capital to register with the authority, PEIRA Chairman Hasnaat Qureshi said on Thursday.

He said as many as 1,200 schools in the federal capital are currently registered with PEIRA, while a general notice has been issued to unregistered schools to get registered. He said that after the general notice, individual notices would be issued to schools which fail to register with the authority.

The private schools, tuition centres and day care centres, working within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) would have to register themselves with PEIRA since they fall within the jurisdiction of the authority, he added.

Legal action, he said, would be taken through the district management against the owners who do not register their schools after receiving notices. “We do not know the actual number of private schools, colleges and day care centres existing in the federal capital,” PEIRA chairman said, adding that a survey was being conducted in this regard to check the actual number of such institutions.
