CDA to launch campaign in G sectors

Committee formed on court orders notes government houses involved in encroachment

ISLAMABAD: Following directions from the Islamabad High Court, a committee to tackle illegal water connections and encroachment in the capital has decided to launch a grand operation.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) Member Administration Yasir Peerzada chaired the first meeting of the committee constituted by IHC’s Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui. The committee has been tasked with removing illegal installations and connections on water supply lines by allottees of government accommodations.



Peerzada said that directions of the court would be implemented through a comprehensive drive within the stipulated timeline.



Outlining the plan for the drive, he said that before starting the operation against violators, public notices would be issued advising them to voluntarily remove of illegal installations within seven days.

Moreover, announcements would be made through loud speakers of mosques in different areas of the city apart from distributing pamphlets and putting up banners.

After the expiry of the deadline, a major operation would be conducted around the city. To ensure the operation is successful, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL), Islamabad Police and Estate Office would nominate their respective focal persons.



During the meeting, the Estate Officer said that encroachment and installations were mostly noticed in government accommodations in G series sectors. The departments part of the meeting agreed that in the first phase, they would launch their operation from F and G type accommodations located in G sectors.

In this regard, a team was formed comprising the E&DM additional director, Water Supply assistant director, senior special magistrate, Maintenance assistant director, Enforcement assistant director, the Joint Estate Officer, representatives of Islamabad Police, Sngpl and Wapda.

Residents of different government houses in the capital have illegally installed motors and pumps on main water supply lines causing water shortages.
