MQM-London's target killers arrested: Rangers spokesperson

Accused were allegedly in contact with the party's set-up in South Africa through WhatsApp

The paramilitary force claimed on Wednesday to have arrested two political workers for their alleged involvement in targeted killings of the rivalry political party's workers few days back in Orangi Town.

The two alleged target killers belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement - London (MQM) were arrested by the Rangers. They are accused of being involved in targeted killing of two Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) workers, Abdul Majeed alias Nadeem Mullah and Arshad alias Lal Khan, in Orangi Town on July 17.

The arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by the Rangers spokesperson Colonel Qaiser Khattab at Rangers Headquarters in Karachi on Wednesday evening.

The alleged target killers have been identified as Muhammad Rahim and Muhammad Danish, who had been in contact through WhatsApp with the MQM-London's set up in South Africa at the time of the incident. "The arrested target killers belong to MQM-London and they were tasked by South Africa network's militants, including Qamarul Islam alias Teddy alias Waseem Bhai (code name Abdullah), about a month ago to complete this swift operation," Colonel Khattak revealed.

"Weapons and a motorcycle used in the killings of the two people in Orangi Town area have also been recovered from them," he said. According to the Rangers official, the target killers were conveyed a message from South Africa via WhatsApp, adding that the MQM-London founder Altaf Hussain also commended the accused for successfully carrying out the task.

The Rangers spokesperson said Rs50,000 reward was transferred for the suspects through a bank account from South Africa. The arrested target killers had also been involved in wall-chalking in favour of MQM-London chief.

According to the officer, a special team was constituted to arrest the killers of the two people in Orangi Town. The two target killers have been arrested while some of their comrades were also on their backup support and they will be arrested soon, he added.

"We have also found voice messages in the suspects' mobile phones, in which Abdullah congratulated them on behalf of MQM-London founder," the officer explained. "In the second voice message, Altaf Hussain congratulated the South Africa network for carrying out the target killing of PSP workers with the help of their operatives in Karachi."

Besides this, the arrested suspects also revealed to have been involved in various cases of targeted killings on the orders of MQM-London leadership. The suspects, along with their comrades, were also involved in spreading anti-Pakistan, anti-army and law enforcement agencies material, as well as wall-chalking in favour of Altaf in Karachi.

"The arrested suspects also revealed the names of the absconding associates who, on the orders of MQM-London leaderships including Altaf, Nadeem, Qamarul Islam Teddy alias Waseem, Abdul Rasheed alias Babu Bihari and Abdullah, were planning to carry out attacks on the central leaders of the different political parties," he explained.
