KARACHI: A sessions court acquitted on Saturday Ubaid Khursheed, one of the several Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) 'militants' accused of being involved in numerous murders, in another murder case of jail officials after the prosecution consecutively failed to prove charges leveled against Khursheed.
Khursheed alias Ubaid K2, an MQM worker who later switched to the Pak Sarzameen Party during incarceration, is one of the 'high-profile' suspects taken into custody on the March 11, 2015 in a pre-dawn Rangers raid at the MQM headquarters, Nine Zero in Azizabad.

Among others charges, he was prosecuted for allegedly ambushing the vehicle of a former Central Jail, Karachi superintendent, Pir Shabbir Jan Sarhandi, in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area in October, 2015. Sarhandi and his two guards sustained injuries in the attack while his friend, Fahim Farooqi, was killed.
The case was tried in the court of additional district and sessions judge at the judicial complex inside the prison. The judge, after concluding the trial, observed that the prosecution failed to prove the charges of the accused during the trial. It lacked evidence and therefore could not establish its contentions beyond the shadow of a doubt.

Earlier, in May this year, Khursheed and three others were exonerated by an anti-terrorism court in the murder case of another jail official, Amanullah Khan Niazi, his brother Habibullah Khan Niazi, and three guards.
