MQM-Pakistan blames Shoro for post-rain Hyderabad situation

MNA Waseem Hussain praises HMC in press conference

HYDERABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) - Pakistan has blamed the Sindh government of the rain-caused miseries faced by the residents of Hyderabad. At a press conference on Sunday, MQM-Pakistan MNA Syed Waseem Hussain blamed Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, who has also been elected from Hyderabad, for city's problems after the rain.

"The city received light to moderate showers but many roads and localities are still inundated with rainwater," the MNA claimed, adding that for the last week, almost all the main roads in Hyderabad have closely resembled small lakes.

The MNA named several submerged localities and market places, including the railway station and Qadam Gah Moula Ali, which are frequented by thousands of people daily.



He alleged that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government and particularly Shoro have appointed corrupt officers in Hyderabad who have no interest in serving the people. "The drainage system is in tatters but billions of rupees of funds that are meant to be spent on this system are being embezzled," Hussain claimed.

He criticised Masood Jumani, who is serving on top positions in five departments in Hyderabad. The posts he has been appointed against include the Hyderabad Development Authority director-general, Hyderabad Development Package project director, Water and Sanitation Agency managing director and roads deputy project director. Jumani has been appointed by Shoro to steal funds, alleged the MNA.

"This is not simply a non-compliance of the Supreme Court's order but a deliberate contempt of court," Hussain remarked. "There is not a single provincial government department in Hyderabad that is not headed by a corrupt officer."



The MNA also accused the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority and irrigation department of releasing excess water in the three canals of Hyderabad, which has affected the low-lying areas.

The MQM-Pakistan MNA, however, praised the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC), which is headed by a mayor from his party, for its single-handed efforts to keep as many parts of Hyderabad clean in the rain aftermath as was possible due to its scarce resources.
