Residents ordered to evacuate dilapidated buildings

Residents told vacate structures before any untoward incident takes place

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Saturday issued notices to residents of 177 dilapidated buildings, asking them to vacate the structures before any untoward incident takes place.

RMC Chief Officer Khalid Goraya confirmed that the corporation’s building control department had issued notices to residents and tenants of several buildings including Moti Cinema and Moti Mahal Plaza. The plaza has over 400 shops and offices.

The structures are located near Nullah Leh. Land erosion near t banks of the stream was posing threat to buildings. City authorities have voiced fears that buildings near Nullah Leh may cave in and fall causing loss of life.

In view of this threat, the residents have been asked to evacuate these buildings.
