ANF seizes 334kg hashish, rounds up 13 suspects

The drug, worth Rs367m, confiscated during 13 raids carried out across the country

ISLAMABAD: The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) on Thursday seized 334kg of hashish and arrested 13 suspected drug smugglers while also seizing six vehicles being used for transporting narcotics.

The huge cache of drugs, which is worth Rs367 million in the international market, was confiscated during 13 counter drugs operations carried out across the country.

Acting on a tipoff, the ANF Quetta intercepted a Nissan car near general area, Jungle Pir Ali Zai of District Qilla Abdullah. However, persons on board managed to flee from the scene under cover of darkness.

However, a thorough search led to seizure of 133kg of hashish concealed in secret cavities of the car. In another operation, the ANF Quetta intercepted a Toyota Hiace at Spini Road of Quetta’s Killi Khilji Abad tehsil and recovered 128kg of hashish concealed in improvised cavities of the car.

A person on board, identified as Ghulam Nabi, was also arrested. In yet another operation, the ANF raided a graveyard located at Quetta’s Sabzal Road and seized an unattended bag containing 5.5kg of hashish. According to reports, the drug was placed for handing over to another narcotics gang.

The ANF Rawalpindi also raided a Goods Transport Company based in Jhelum city and seized 31kg of hashish concealed in a consignment containing stones. In another operation, the ANF recovered 1.25kg of hashish from a drug carrier identified as Abdul Ghafoor.

The ANF Rawalpindi also apprehended a local drug peddler, Muhammad Ehsan, and recovered 1.25kg of hashish from his possession. It also arrested a local drug peddler, Liaqat and recovered 430gm of hashish from his possession. He was arrested near River View Road, Van Stand, Gilgit.

The ANF Lahore arrested a local drug peddler, Muhammad Azhar, and recovered 500gm hashish from his possession. In another operation, the ANF intercepted a Toyota Corolla near Haroon Express Bus Stand, Thokar Niaz Baig, Lahore and recovered 8.4kg hashish hidden in secret cavities of the car.

Two persons, Muhammad Bahadur and Taj Muhammad, were also arrested during the operation.
