ISLAMABAD: A delegation of 10 students from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and their supervisor will be visiting Japan later this month as part of the youth exchange programme for science.

Known as the “Sakura Exchange Programme in Science”, it will see student visit Japan from July 22 to July 30, 2017.

The selected students are currently enrolled in the PhD and Masters programmes at the NUST School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.

Japan’s Ambassador Takashi Kurai said that the Sakura Exchange Programme in Science aims to promote exchanges between Asian and Japanese researchers in fields of science and technology.

“NUST is the first Pakistani university which has qualified for Sakura Exchange Programme,” he said at a pre-departure ceremony at his residence where the students were given their travel documents.

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) annually offer “Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Programme in Science” (SAKURA Exchange Program in Science).

Since last year, students from six high schools had availed this opportunity.

Ambassador Kurai also underlined the importance of learning new science and technology based on the knowledge in the modern technology-led world. He added that Japan would continue assisting Pakistan in its efforts for the human resource development which is the key to achieving sustainable progress and development.

He hoped that Pakistani students would get an opportunity during their visit to Japan to learn and experience modern scientific and technological advancements of Japan.
