SWABI: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a police constable within the jurisdiction of Lahor police station in Swabi on Thursday.

A press release issued from the office of Swabi DPO stated that Haq Nawaz was posted as a detective foot constable (DFC) – a policeman who carries summons and court letters – in Tordher police station since the past few months.

Nawaz was heading to his duty early in the morning when unidentified gunmen opened fire at him, killing him on the spot and escaped.

Police cordoned off the crime scene and conducted a search operation but no arrests have been made so far.

Nawaz’s funeral prayers were offered at police lines in Swabi and he was laid to rest in his native village Adina.

The local DIG, MNA and district Nazim Ameer Rehman participated in the funeral prayers.

The motive behind the murder is not yet known.
