KARACHI: War has plagued Syria for six years now. And the cost of war has been hundreds and thousands of lost lives and millions more which have been displaced and are even fleeing the country. One son of Syrian immigrants to Canada, is a current WWE superstar Sami Zayn. Although miles away from his home country, Zayn has announced to help Syrian people affected by the war.
He recently announced via Twitter that he has launched the #SamiForSyria campaign, in collaboration with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), a US-based non-profit medical relief organisation. The campaign is designed to help raise funds to provide Mobile Medical Units (MMU) to residents of Syria who are displaced or lacking basic needs and healthcare.

“I want to talk about a cause that’s very close to my heart, and that is the humanitarian crisis in Syria” says Zayn in the video he tweeted. "For a long time now, I have wanted to do something to help and I’ve partnered with SAMS – a non-political, non-religious, non-profit organisation.”
Zayn’s words reflect his love for Syria and raises a humanitarian issue, urging everyone to donate to the campaign to help the war-affected Syrians. “Unfortunately, with the devastation of war in Syria, not only have people’s homes been destroyed, but also hospitals have been destroyed. Children’s hospitals have been destroyed, making healthcare not only limited but also dangerous. Therefore, mobile clinic will be able to provide safely primary healthcare to those in need,” Zayn continues.

“And who are these people in need? We are talking about the disabled, the elderly, the women and children. People living in areas where they have no access to fuel and transportation, people whose homes have been destroyed and now are living in camps and tents. These are the people we will directly be able to help.”

The campaign aims to collect at least $48,000, which will keep the operation running for at least six months. And Zayn believes, with the support of people, they can not only reach the goal but exceed it.
Several wrestling personalities and stars came out in support of Zayn’s campaign. Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan also urged fans to donate and tweeted, “Awed and inspired by Sami Zayn's quest to set up a mobile clinic in Syria.”
Mustafa Ali, WWE Cruiserweight of Pakistani origin, also tweeted in support, saying “Sami Zayn is doing something special here.” Hardcore legend Mick Foley wrote on Facebook, “Sami Zayn is taking a stand and making a difference. I hope you will consider joining him, and help save a life today.”
Wrestlers Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens both have donated $5000 each to Zayn’s #SamiForSyria campaign. Bo Dallas has also donated $1000, whereas first ever WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor and WWE artist Rob Schamberger have also assisted in Zayn's efforts.

“Right now, there are 13.5 million people in need of assistance inside Syria. Many of these displaced men, women and children do not have regular access to food, non-food and medical services,” The campaign’s webpage states. “Struggling to survive the effects of siege, many of these people remain isolated and suffer the effects of malnutrition and deteriorating health due to the lack of emergency and primary medical services and medications.”
With a generous cause like this, Zayn’s campaign for SAMS collected more than $21000 within a few days to help the Syrians going through hard times.
