ABBOTTABAD: A nine-year-old child succumbed to his injuries sustained in Kangar Mera area near Abbottabad after he was dragged around a field and tied through a rope to a donkey by his landlord, police said.

The landlord allegedly tied the child to a rope of a donkey, and let the animal run free. As a result, the latter was severely injured.

The boy was shifted to Rural Health Centre in Lora in critical condition on Wednesday evening, where he breathed his last.

The landlord was arrested following a protest by area residents.

Confirming the incident, DPO Abbottabad Syed Ashfaq told The Express Tribune that an FIR had been registered with investigation ongoing.

During interrogation, police said, the landlord said he had asked the child to take the animals away, who barged into his fields to destroy the crops, but to no avail.

The body of the deceased was handed over to the family following examination after death.
