Corruption: FIA arrest Lesco, Customs officials

FIA catches three officers of Lahore Electric Supply Company and Customs ‘red handed’.

The Punjab chapter of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday caught three officers of Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) and Customs ‘red handed’ on the charges of corruption and misuse of authority.


An FIA official said that Lesco XEN Liaqat Ali was arrested in a sting operation in Kot Lakhpat on the direction of FIA Punjab director Inam Ghani.During the operation Rs0.1 million was recovered under the supervision of a magistrate. The money was received as a bribe, FIA officials said. The bribe was used to get an industrial connection and to reduce a deduction bill.

Two sting operations were also conducted on Customs officers. In the first, Inspector Farooq was arrested taking a bribe of Rs0.1 million. In the second operation, Inspector Sheikh Arshad was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs30,000. Both raids were supervised by magistrates.

Two FIRs have been registered and further investigations are underway.
