ISLAMABAD: A panel of parliamentarians on Wednesday slammed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) over its lethargy in developing sectors in the capital.

“The CDA is, apparently, not serious to develop Sector E-12,” observed members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Government Assurances. The panel met at the Parliament House on Wednesday. The committee was told that the CDA had failed to develop certain sectors in the capital, including Sector E-12, for over 30.

The panel also took exception over the absence of CDA chairman and Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz in the meeting. He was directed to attend the next meeting of the panel and explain why he was not developing Sector E-12.

Failure to do so, the panel warned, appropriate action would be taken against the CDA chief under the rules.

Noting that Islamabad was among the most beautiful capitals in the world, however, the poor performance of the civic agency, committee members lamented, would likely render Islamabad as the ugliest capital of the world over the next 30 years.

The committee also considered the performance of the Ministry of Water and Power. The committee was told that sometimes consumers received power bills after the due date. And if the bills are received before the due date, they arrive just days before the due date creating problems for consumers.

In this regards, the committee directed the ministry to improve their billing system and come up with a mechanism to deliver the bills at least two weeks before the due date.
