KARACHI: A man was arrested on Monday by the police for conning people by selling them stray dogs at high prices.

Sagheer, a resident of Khamosh Colony and a barber by profession, was held on Monday by North Nazimabad police after receiving complaints.

"He was arrested on a citizen's complaint that he sold stray dogs at a high price, claiming them to be of a special breed," said North Nazimabad DSP Naeem Khan.

Sagheer was arrested after a complaint was filed against him by Riazuddin, who had been sold stray dogs.

"I saw the advertisement on On Line eXchange (OLX) and decided to buy the dogs. I contacted Sagheer and made a deal with him. He sold one dog for Rs50,000. When the dogs were delivered to me, I gave them a bath, subsequently, the colour on their skin started to come off," the complainant told the police. Riazuddin was not the only victim of fraud as several others had also been conned by him.

Sagheer, along with his companions, including his brother-in-law, used OLX and committed fraud by selling stray dogs to people on high rates. The police also recovered four stray dogs from his possession which he had claimed were German shepherds.

DSP Naeem Khan said that Sagheer was produced before a court on Monday and sent to jail. "He has been arrested under Section 420 (fraud) of the Pakistan Penal Code under a bailable offence and can be bailed" DSP Khan added. "But the police are looking for his companions." A case had been registered and further investigation is under way.
