SHC extends bail of law minister

SHC had on June 12 granted him interim bail before arrest in a sum of Rs500,000

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) extended on Monday the interim bail of the provincial minister for the law and prisons department, Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, in connection with a corruption reference.

National Accountability Ordinance repealed by Sindh Assembly

A two-judge bench, headed by SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh, extended the bail till August 7.

Lanjar, who belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), obtained bail on May 29, anticipating arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on corruption charges.

Sindh cabinet gets another minister

Earlier, the SHC had on June 12 granted him interim bail before arrest in a sum of Rs500,000. Meanwhile, a notice was also issued to the NAB special prosecutor to file comments regarding the allegations against the minister.

During Monday's proceedings, the special prosecutor filed comments on behalf of the national anti-graft watchdog regarding inquiry initiated against the PPP leader for his alleged involvement in corrupt practices, which caused losses to the national exchequer.
