KARACHI: The Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) has expressed its gratitude towards Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Jawed Bajwa for arriving in Parachinar and giving assurances to the families of the martyrs.

MWM leaders held a press conference at the Karachi Press Club where they acknowledged the efforts of the Pakistan Army and criticised the federal government for not caring about the people.

While addressing the press conference, MWM Deputy Secretary-General Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi said that the families of the martyrs and notables were allayed after the assurances of the army chief and therefore ended their protest. He was accompanied by the political secretary of MWM, Syed Ali Hussain Naqvi. Hussain added that MWM too decided to end its sit-in protests that were being staged to express solidarity with the victims of Parachinar.

Allama Hasan thanked the COAS for his visit and his role in meeting the demands of the protesters. He also thanked all those who supported the heirs of victims of terrorism in Parachinar and particularly the media for its coverage.

He denounced the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz-led government and criticised their attitude on the Parachinar issue.

"The federal government has demonstrated irresponsibility, as nobody from the government went to Parachinar to meet the heirs of the martyrs of blasts, despite the weeklong sit-in," he said.

The MWM leader said that state institutions, particularly the civilian government, had failed to shoulder their responsibilities because terrorists were targeting the loyal sons of Pakistan.

He praised Sunni-Shia unity in Pakistan, saying that the prevailing unity defeated the enemies of the country. He said that this unity also disappointed those elements who were trying to turn Pakistan into a sectarian country. Allama Hasan said that General Ziaul Haq and his supporters were responsible for terrorism and extremism in Pakistan today.
