Two-day International Conference on Education to be held

Punjab launched biggest education reforms process under supervision of CM, says minister

LAHORE: School Education Provincial Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said that a two-day International Conference on Education will be held on October 5th and 6th in Lahore.

He said that Representatives of renowned development agencies and educationists from across the globe would participate in the conference. Initiatives of School Education Department would be reviewed to adopt international best practices in Punjab, he added. The event would further the education sector reforms in the province, he said. He said this while presiding over a meeting at Civil Secretariat to finalise the arrangements of the conference. He said that the conference would put together the educationists and experts to ponder over the education reforms.

He said that Punjab had emerged as a major player in the field of education in South Asia because of the efforts made by Punjab government to promote quality education at the grassroots. He said that Punjab had launched the biggest education reforms process under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. He said that the government had always provided ample funds to promote education. Rs345 billion had been allocated for education in FY 2017-18 which was Rs33 billion more than the amount allocated in FY 2016-17, he added.

Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed, Schools Education Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik, Higher Education Secretary Naseem Nawaz, Schools Special Secretary Rana Hassan Akhtar, MD PEF Tariq Mehmood and representatives of British Council, international partners and NGOs attended the meeting.
