Polio campaign: Three areas in Karachi vulnerable, says CM

Three towns of Karachi and nine districts in the province are at high risk for polio, said Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah after inaugurating a polio-eradication campaign at Bath Island on Wednesday.


These areas include Baldia and Gadap in Karachi and the districts of Hyderabad, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kambar Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Shikarpur, Sukkur.

The country reported the highest number of polio cases in the first quarter of 2011 as compared to the three remaining endemic countries i.e. Afghanistan, India and Nigeria. The number of cases in Sindh went up from one to six, compared to the same time last year.
