Bring on the orders : Tailors in frenzy to cope with demands

ISLAMABAD: As Eidul Fitr neared, Salman Ahmed fretted as he watched a tailor hunched over his Eid dress, wondering if it would ever be ready in time. Tailors go into a frenzy in the days leading to Eid.

While their business thrives owing to excessive orders from customers in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, it becomes a monumental task to fulfill those orders on time.



Tailoring shops in twin cities appeared to have taken more orders than they can possibly cope with, leaving customers scrambling to pick up their clothes. Many tailors claim that they had received approximately twice as many orders than during regular days with customers booking new orders with even a few days left to Eid. Irfan Ahmed, a tailor at Sector G-9 markaz said, “I used to close orders in the second Ashra of Ramazan, but this time I took orders till the last day on double charges of Rs1,000 per suit.”

Tailor Aslam Shah in the Commercial Market said, “Business is always good around Eid. In fact, this is the only time we make some profit when compared to other months.”



He said that charges for stitching have increased because of Eid since they have to put in extra an effort. “I prefer getting my clothes stitched from tailors instead of buying readymade,” said Salman.
