LAHORE: The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) connected on Monday the 1,200-megawatt re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) Balloki power plant with the national grid.

The power plant has been connected through the 500-kilovolt Balloki-Sheikhupura transmission line and 500kv Sahiwal-Balloki transmission line as an interim arrangement for back feed of the Balloki power house, said an NTDC spokesman.

Balloki plant is one of the three LNG-based power plants, each having capacity of 1,200MW, being set up by the government in Punjab to meet energy needs of the province.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said nine towers of the 500kv Guddu-DG Khan transmission line had collapsed due to a high intensity wind storm and torrential rains in various parts of Rajanpur. However, power supply was restored to the affected areas through alternative sources.

He said some 20 km away from Guddu, continuous flow of rainwater from the mountains of Balochistan caused the collapse of the towers.

Teams of NTDC engineers and contractors were immediately mobilised and restoration work had also begun under the supervision of GM (asset management) and chief engineer (asset management) Multan.

“The teams are facing difficulties in the transportation of men and material to the sites of damaged towers due to waterlogging and slush in the area,” he added.

NTDC said its Managing Director Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry was monitoring the rehabilitation activities and had instructed the teams to complete the restoration work in the shortest possible time.
