FAISALABAD: Divisional Pakistan Railways Union workers criticised the government’s decision to increase petroleum prices on Tuesday.

Railway workers said that the rise in petroleum prices would result in a trickle down effect and increase the price hike of consumer goods.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, Divisional Railways union president Khalid Mehmood said that petroleum prices, were increased from seven to eight rupees per litre and later decreased to three to four rupees per litre.

“The government is trying to hoodwink the public by doubling prices,” he said. “The government needs to fix petroleum prices for at least a year to help stabilise the market,” he said. Mehmood said the workers would continue protesting until the government overturned their decision.
