ISLAMABAD: As part of its ongoing crackdown against professional beggars and their handlers, the Islamabad Police on Monday said that they had arrested and booked 110 beggars from across the capital.

Following directions issued by SSP-Operations Sajid Kiani, special teams have been formed to catch of beggars and their handlers. In this regard, police detained 110 beggars on Sunday.

They were booked and a legal process against them was initiated, SSP Kiani directed to shift the children and women found begging to Shelter Homes and Protection Centers.

The official said that apart from curbing the ‘social evil’, he said that they were focusing on those backing professional beggars. He said that needy children and women are shifted to the various centers after verification so that they could be made responsible citizens.
