ISLAMABAD: To promote sports activities in the capital, the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) is planning to upgrade existing grounds while allocating additional funds in the upcoming fiscal year to build additional sports grounds in the city, particularly in the rural areas.

This was suggested by IMC Chief Officer and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Member Planning and Design Asad Mehboob Kiyani during a meeting with the CDA’s hockey team which had recently won the hockey tournament in the Margalla Festival.

CDA Training Academy Executive Director General Sanaullah Aman Said said that after a long time, the CDA’s hockey team had won the Margalla Festival tournament after an interesting competition. He said that 14 teams of the capital had participated in the tournament.

The final of the tournament was played between CDA’s team and the Faisal Hockey Club. However, the former won the tournament after a tough game which finished 2-1. CDA’s Najeeb Ullah and Sajid Raza scored a goal each.

Kiyani also handed over the trophy to the CDA team’s captain Azim while certificates were provided to the remaining players and officials.

He also assured that he would submit recommendations to the Islamabad Mayor and CDA Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz for inducting young and talented players into the team and further strengthen it.
