ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua has said that Pakistan is today a free, transparent and democratic society where all issues are being effectively addressed. She was responding to a question about the 2010 Human Rights and Democracy report by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). “Regrettably, the report omits the positives,” she added. “Nevertheless, essential ingredients of a pluralistic democratic society that values human rights are amply in evidence in Pakistan today. And these need no acknowledgment.” The spokesperson said foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India had a brief telephone conversation on Friday where they agreed to build on the goodwill generated by the meeting of their prime ministers at Mohali.
