Basic commodities: Prices of sugar, ghee increased

KARACHI: The government appears to have no influence over sugar and ghee producers, as prices have been increased significantly. Price of sugar has increased by Rs1.5 per kilogramme, while the price of a 16-kilogramme canister of ghee has reached Rs2,540, after an increase of Rs40.  According to the Karachi Retail Grocers Alliance, the price of a 100-kilogramme bag of sugar was Rs6,300 last week, but reached Rs6,450 after the price hike. Moreover, sugar is being sold at up to Rs70 per kilogramme in the open market.
