PSP to decide future course of action in 48 hours

Mustafa Kamal says PPP's days are numbered

KARACHI: After being briefly detained by the police, Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairperson Mustafa Kamal said he will announce his post-Million March strategy in the next 48 hours after consulting his party.

Addressing a news conference early Monday morning at PSP headquarters Pakistan House after his release, he said that the Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) days were numbered.

"It is very low of the PPP that it fired tear gas at women and children," said the PSP chairperson, referring to the provincial government's crackdown on his 'Million March' on Sharae Faisal late Sunday.



More than a dozen PSP workers, including Kamal and the party's general-secretary Raza Haroon, were arrested by the police after party workers scuffled with law enforcement agencies blocking their way towards Red Zone.

Kamal urged the federal government to take notice of the provincial government's action and questioned why Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had 'surrendered' the financial hub of the country to PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.

"The march had not even started. We had only asked our workers to assemble for it but the [provincial] government grew scared of the people demanding their rights," he commented.



Though the PSP had claimed that it succeeded in gathering around a million people during Sunday's showdown, contrary to what Kamal had claimed, a fewer number of people participated in the march.

The PSP chairperson said that a number of political parties had already held protests and gathered inside the Red Zone but the provincial government only took action against the PSP.

He also warned the PPP that his party will now move its protest into neighbourhoods, intensifying its campaign against what he alleged were the wrongdoings and corruption of the ruling party.
