KARACHI: Investigators looking into a horrific incident that claimed four lives in Orangi Town have revealed that two sons of the key suspect accompanied him and aided the father in killing the other family members.

A woman, her two minor children - a daughter and son - and her brother were killed at their house in Mansoor Nagar, Orangi Town, within the limits of the Iqbal Market police station late Friday night.

Initially, the police had arrested the woman's husband, Abdul Mannan alias Bengali, for the murder but investigators later revealed that Mannan committed the murders in collusion with his sons from a previous marriage.

The victims have been identified as 25-year-old Rabia, her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Rahila, one-year-old son Riyan Arif and five-year-old brother Noor Jan. Rahila was Rabia's daughter from a previous marriage whereas Riyan was Mannan's son. The police have determined that the murder weapon used was a sharp iron rod and that the victims died on the spot. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The police had arrested the suspect from the hospital where he was receiving medical treatment, where they say he also sustained injuries when he hit himself with the iron rod and stabbed himself with a knife in order to pretend innocence and divert suspicion from himself.

The police registered on Saturday an FIR No 128/17 under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Mannan and his young two sons - Asif and Yousuf - on behalf of the deceased woman's father, Sabir Ahmed. The complainant, in his recorded statement to the police, stated that his daughter was a widow and had recently married Mannan. "Rabia had two children. Her children and my son were also living with her at Mannan's house since the couple's wedding," the complainant told the police.

"Since my daughter gave birth to Riyan, Mannan's other sons became envious and jealous."

Man strangles wife to death

The victim's father said his daughter and Mannan had fought with each other over a family dispute, which led to Mannan and his sons hitting and killing her and the children in their home.

On the other hand, Mannan, in his initial statement to the police, confessed to the crime, saying that he fought with his wife, Rabia, after she did not serve him food. "I used to work in the [garment industry] and since I got married to Rabia, she did not treat me well," accused the suspect. "It was a routine matter for her to not even serve me food properly. I had no intention to kill [Rabia and the children] but I could not stop myself."

District West SSP Nasir Aftab said that though the case has been registered and a key suspect has been arrested, the police are still looking for Mannan's sons, Asif and Yousuf, who went into hiding after the incident.
