This exploding device will help catch thieves red handed

Instead of running after thief, shouting out for help, simply alert people using this innovative device

Ever been robbed of your handbag in the middle of a crowded street?Most days you don't recover what's stolen from you, but now there may be a more effective way to prevent the theft in the first place.

Rather than running after the thief and shouting out to the public for help, you can simply alert the surroundings using this innovative detecting device.

This Malaysian company has developed a handbag accessory that is designed to release coloured dye and smoke flare when being stolen from its owner.

Named the Handbag dyenator, the device is alerted via text to release dye and flare drawing attention to the thief who normally would blend in with a packed crowd and disappear.



This would also make it easier for law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and for the general public to identify a potential thief.

In case the dye and smoke isn’t enough, the device also has a GPS enabled allowing the owner to locate the bag’s whereabouts or more importantly the thief's whereabouts.

Developed by sportswear firm Ash Be Nim, it is an effective way to reduce snatch theft in Malaysia. With women walking alone being the most common targets of such thefts, it is all the more necessary to have external help.

"The handbag Dyenator is just another way to put safety back in the hands of women, and we hope that it will act as a deterrent to snatch thieves," Hui Mathews, the founder of Ash Be Nimble, said in a statement.

It certainly is a more effective way of tackling handbag theft rather than running after thieves who are trained to dodge the crowd and run away.

As useful as the device seems to be, not everyone was convinced. One user suggesting that the thieves would in the first few seconds disable the detector rendering the entire concept useless. Others thought of it as a great tool for pranks.

Most people did, however, see the usefulness of the device with one user asking for an International release.



To get your hands on the device, you’ll have to do some waiting with the device, created in collaboration with advertising agency Ogilvy, not being currently opened for the public with all customers currently being registered to a waiting list.

You could always try your luck with the waiting list, you never know when you can get lucky.
