K-P health DG takes notice of management officials running private clinics

Office received complaints of health officials running clinics, in violation of rules

PESHAWAR: Even though government service health officials on the management level receive a non-practicing allowance, several have been found to be running private clinics in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in violation of government rules. The provincial health directorate has taken notice of this and issued them warnings.

K-P Health Services Director General Dr Shabina Raza has sent a letter to medical superintendents, hospital and medical directors as well as district health officers asking them to direct all management level health officials under them to desist from running private practices or action will be taken against them.

According to health officials, the director general received complaints that several doctors, serving on management levels in government hospitals, have been continuing to head or run private clinics after their duty hours even though they are given an allowance to not practice medicine.



“This is being done in violation of the rules since the ones involved are not authorised to run private clinics. They should be dealt with in accordance with the rules and regulations,” a senior health official told The Express Tribune.

The official, who requested anonymity since he is not authorised to speak to the media said that a warning has been issued and the concerned officials have been informed about the unlawful activities. He added “‘after the warning, disciplinary action will be taken against the ones still found involved in private practice.”

The letter, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune stated that management cadre health officials were not authorised to do private practice.

The health services DG has also sought affirmations from these officials stating that they are not involved in private practice.
