Jimmy Prout, a 45-year-old father of two, was allegedly forced into eating his own testicle after which a hammer and chisel were used to knock his teeth out and his body then dumped on a wasteland, consumed by animals.
He was allegedly subjected to months of "Dark Ages" torture by four people belonging to a gang which had a "cultish dimension." The accused, Ann Corbett, 26, Zahid Zaman, 43, Myra Wood, 50, and Kay Rayworth, 56, denied the murder of or allowing the death of a vulnerable adult and pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice to a jury at Newcastle Crown Court.
A series of events in 2015 allegedly led to the assaults against Prout. Prout allegedly died as a result of his traumatic injuries. Further accusation stated that his body was wrapped in a sleeping bag by the gang and dumped in the bushes in Tyne and Wear in February.
According to Prosecutor Paul Greaney, Prout was not just “mistreated, he was tortured,” and treated like a 'skivvy.' Greaney informed the court that the situation had built up when Zaman, a car crash victim and wheelchair-user, started obsessing that Corbett's brother had stolen his belongings, and Prout had not helped him enough to recover the stolen items. “Probably because of these events and, no doubt, because he was perceived as being vulnerable, the other members of the group started to abuse Jimmy. He was assaulted on several occasions, including in the days just before his death," Greaney said.
The gang had allegedly covered their tracks and cleared out Prout's bank account while in the process of pretending to help search for him.
The police had received a call from Zaman, who's personality was described as controlling and vengeful, on March 25 where he said that Corbett had attacked him and killed Prout. Officers later visited a property in North Tyneside where Wood, Zaman and Rayworth claimed they had letters confessing to Prout's murder written by Corbett.
Greaney further told the jury that the entire act was "pure theatre" since they knew that Prout had been dead for over six weeks.
Prout had started to live as a tenant in Rayworth's property after which he had become integrated into the group.
