KARACHI:

Pak-Arab Refinery Company (Parco) has said that it has successfully commissioned the Diesel Hydro Desulphurisation (DHDS) project, which was completed well before time and within the allocated budget.

The company made this announcement during the 128th board meeting on Wednesday, a press statement said. This pioneering project will make Parco the only refinery in Pakistan to produce environment-friendly fuel.

The DHDS plant, situated at Mahmood Kot, Muzaffargarh, is aimed at meeting international standards by reducing sulphur content in high-speed diesel, the statement said. It has the capacity of producing 26,000 barrels per day and reduces sulphur content in high-speed diesel from 7,000 parts per million to 500 parts per million, which is a Euro-II requirement.

Federal Minister for Privatisation, Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar, presiding over the meeting, said that the project would greatly contribute towards a greener environment in the country.

Qamar, who is the chairman of the Parco board, said that clean environment is the priority of the government, adding that the government has planned environment-friendly petroleum products and all refineries have been asked to meet Euro-II requirements, which is an international standard.

Future plans of the company were also discussed and an update on the new asphalt production project was given.
