Nine people rescued: Two presumed dead as boat sinks near DG Khan

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Two persons are believed to have drowned in the Indus River at Ghazi Ghat near here when a boat capsized after ramming into a power pylon built in the river.

A total of 11 people were aboard the boat when it sank. While nine of them were rescued, search to locate the remaining two was going on.

The family of Malik Javed, an instructor in the Vocational Institute and a resident of Bhutta Colony, was returning home after attending a marriage ceremony when they decided to have a pleasure ride in a boat.



The operator lost control of the boat in the fast-flowing water. Subsequently, the boat collided with a high-tension power transmission pylon in the river, with a result that its hull got damaged and it went down quickly.

Fishermen, who were nearby, rushed to rescue the drowning passengers, managing to save nine. Search for boat operator Gulshan, 15, and Haider Ali, Malik Javed’s son, 10, was being carried out by a team of Rescue 1122 till our going to the press.
