WAPDA launches van service in Dasu

The service was launched by Wapda GM, Project Director Javed Akhtar and Kohistan Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Asif

ISLAMABAD: In its bid to endear itself to the disgruntled affectees of the Dasu hydropower project, the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has launched an air-conditioned van service for these affectees in Kohistan.

According to a statement issued by the power utility, the service has been provided as part of Wapda’s corporate social responsibility following directions from the utility’s chairman Lt Gen (retired) Muzammil Hussain during a recent visit.

The service was formally launched by Wapda General Manager and Project Director Javed Akhtar and Kohistan Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Asif along with local notables. The 17-seater air-conditioned van will ply on a 15-kilometer stretch of the KKH from Dasu Bridge to Kaigah Bridge. It would transport students and locals of the area.

Wapda, in addition to compensating affectees of the Dasu Hydropower Project for their land and assets, had promised to carry out several uplift schemes in the area including for communication infrastructure, livelihood support, area development and improvement in education, electricity supply and public health sectors.
