Sara Chapra, the talented event designer and director at CKO Events, jots down the seven essentials you need to host a fabulous event!

Photography and videography

A wedding photographer is as important as the event itself. A wedding is only one day but the photographs last forever, so it is imperative that one invests in a good photographer because he holds the key to capturing every precious moment. There are some amazing videographers who have changed the game. Their intelligent editing focuses on the most dramatic elements, rather than boring you to death with endless hours of footage. It makes every couple feel like a movie star.

Décor and props

I believe in authenticity. If one wants to create a fairytale wedding then one has to use the right ingredients. That’s why I like to focus on beautiful furniture like lounges, tables, chairs, cushions and other decorative pieces. All the pieces tell a story and allow you to transport your guests into a fairytale. I like to also focus on one big statement piece. I think a piece that is dramatic and larger-than-life makes for an unforgettable design element.

Music and entertainment

Whether you fly in a violinist or use a local talent, music is essential in creating a magical evening. The last thing you want is the deafening sound of all your guests chit-chatting. Good music can really add value to your wedding. A wedding is all about tantalising the senses, and sound, sight, taste is all a part of it.

Flowers and centrepieces

Florals and candles are the most essential feature of a wedding. Flowers are very expensive nowadays and one must come up with creative ways to get maximum mileage for your buck. Weddings and flowers go together like carrots and peas. Candles and candelabras are a very clever way of adding drama to your tablescapes without costing too much, and the effect is magical.

Lighting

Lighting can make or break your wedding. Sometimes you may design the perfect wedding but if your lighting is insufficient or venue is poorly lit then most likely you will compromise your overall ambiance. Lighting is meant to enhance your design and décor so if you neglect this essential element of design, the results can be catastrophic.

Food and desserts

Without good food, your guests feel like they have been robbed or cheated. A lot of amazing caterers have come on the scene creating extraordinary customised menus, which were not seen seven or eight years ago. Whether it’s Thai, Japanese, Italian, French, Indian, Arabic or Pakistani cuisine, the sky is the limit in terms of menu selection!

Venue

A beautiful venue is probably the most important aspect of a wedding and can literally lend itself to 50 per cent of your ambiance. I always tell my clients that if you want a wedding on a budget then choose a beautiful garden as one can do wonders with lighting and keep costs down considerably.
