Promoting Agri-Research: Islamic biotechnology centre proposed

Despite many challenges, best possible efforts were being made to develop the agriculture sector

ISLAMABAD: The government is committed to providing an enabling environment for advanced research and technology in the agriculture sector, announced Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of an international conference on agriculture, food security and biotechnology on Wednesday, he said despite many challenges, best possible efforts were being made to develop the agriculture sector. He pointed out that crop yield particularly of wheat, maize, potato, sugarcane and cotton had grown in recent years. He proposed the establishment of the Islamic Biotechnology Centre in Muslim countries for the promotion of research in the agriculture sector.
