A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, adjourned the matter as the lawyer representing the non-profit organisations was absent. Meanwhile, it extended earlier a stay order against the removal of Khawaja from the IG's post and assigning the additional charge of the post to AIG Abdul Majid Dasti.

The group of NGOs included the Pakistan Institute of Labor Education and Research, Urban Resource Centre, Orangi Pilot Project, singer Shehzad Roy and others.

They had approached the court seeking contempt of court proceedings against the provincial authorities for surrendering Khawaja's services to the federal government in the alleged violation of the stay order and giving additional charge of the IG's post to AIG Dasti.

They alleged the court had on December 26 last year stayed removal of Khawaja, but the provincial government, in disregard of the court's order, surrendered his services to Islamabad. Also, the government gave the additional charge to Dasti.
