Transparent registration under study
Duplicate number plates might be provided at the regional level to facilitate owners of the vehicles
KARACHI:
Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Mukesh Kumar Chawla said on Monday that the Excise Department was considering introducing a system under which ownership of a vehicle would be transferred after the buyer and seller appeared before the motor registration authority and signed transfer deed along with original file. “This will ensure transparency in the registration process and avoid any unpleasant situation,” he said while presiding over a meeting in his office. Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Secretary Abdul Haleem Shaikh and Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui attended the meeting. Chawla said a standard operating procedure was being prepared for finalising consulting services for data scanning and registration of commercial and non-commercial vehicles. Duplicate number plates might be provided at the regional level to facilitate owners of the vehicles, he said.
