Two children die in roof collapse

Heavy rains caused the accident

PESHAWAR: At least two children died while a minor girl and a woman of the same family were injured on Sunday after a roof collapsed on them because of heavy rains on Saturday night.

According to the spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Taimoor Khan, the roof of the house, which had been damaged by the rain on Saturday night, collapsed on Sunday morning in the Chamkani area.

An official told The Express Tribune that food packages were being distributed by the PDMA to the affected family. On Saturday, the meteorological department said that seven millimeter (mm) of rain had been recorded in Lower Dir and Swat, 8mm in Malamjaba, 4mm in Kalam and 2mm in the Balakot area. The Met department said that partly cloudy weather was expected to prevail in most parts of the region.

A press release issued by the Met Department stated that scattered rains and thunderstorms were expected accompanied by gusty winds in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
