The National Accountability Bureau presented Sultan Qamar Siddiqui before the judge, who, on a previous hearing, issued non-bailable warrants of arrest for him.
Last week, the court had issued warrants against the accused after NAB concluded its investigation into a corruption reference, accusing him of having acquired wealth through illegal means.
NAB’s anti-corruption campaign has been successful
The top anti-graft body stated that Siddiqui, during his tenure as the FCS chairperson, accumulated assets worth Rs47.6 million through corruption. It added that the wealth he had was beyond his legal sources of income.
According to NAB, the accused, misusing his authority, embezzled public money and transferred it in his bank accounts as well as those of his wife and mother.
Siddiqui was recently set free by the military after facing trial for his alleged involvement in the Safoora Goth bus attack, in which more than 40 people belonging to the Ismaili community were murdered. He was found innocent.
