NAB’s anti-corruption campaign has been successful

Chaudhry said that NAB was mandated to carry out awareness activities against corruption under Section 33C of the NAO

ISLAMABAD: The NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Saturday said that the bureau’s effective awareness and prevention strategy “Say No To Corruption” had proven to be very successful.

He added that corruption was a method and technique to bypass the rule of law which had now engulfed the entire system forcing it into socio-economic turmoil. Furthermore, corruption, being the mother of all ills, gives birth to multifarious problems including nepotism, favouritism and negating meritocracy, transparency and accountability, a statement released by the bureau said.

Anti-corruption policies yielding positive results

However, Pakistan was today considered a role model for SAARC Countries in terms of its effective Anti-Corruption Strategy to make the people aware people about the ill-effects of corruption. Moreover, Pakistan was the only country whose Corruption Perception Index(CPI) according to Transparency International Report of 2016 had fallen from 126 to 116.

Further, Pakistan was selected to head the SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum. Chaudhry said that NAB was mandated to carry out awareness activities against corruption under Section 33C of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO). Moreover, under NAB’s awareness and prevention campaign across the country, NAB had been engaging different governmental, non-governmental organisations, media, civil society and other segments of society in order to make them aware of the ill effects of corruption.
